Barbara Faron Residence - Far Rockway, NY
The Barbara Faron Residence is a nine-story affordable housing development with 117 units, including supportive apartments for formerly homeless individuals in behavioral health recovery and income-eligible families. Designed by Urban Architectural Initiatives, the building replaces a former church and offers amenities like a gym, community rooms, on-site laundry, 24/7 security, and parking.
Sustainability was prioritized, with the facade featuring vibrant Swisspearl rainscreen panels combined with brick and EIFS, providing a durable, low-maintenance, and striking exterior. The building meets Enterprise Green Communities standards and is conveniently located near public transit, promoting easy access for residents.
This project creates dignified, supportive housing that integrates community resources and sustainable design, contributing to neighborhood revitalization in Far Rockaway. The use of Swisspearl panels enhances both the aesthetic appeal and long-term performance of the facade.
