Merck Auditorium - Rahway, NJ
Ballinger’s design for the new Auditorium at Merck’s Rahway campus pushes the boundaries of modern facade design through the strategic use of Swisspearl® high-density fiber cement (HDFC) panels. As one of four Swisspearl-clad structures on campus, the Auditorium stands out with its sharply angled geometry and clean, sculptural form—an architectural expression that mirrors Merck’s leadership in science and technology.
The project highlights the versatility of Swisspearl panels, which were installed at varied angles to achieve this visually high-impact rainscreen facade. Seamlessly integrated with curtainwall elements, the result is a high-performance building envelope that excels in both aesthetics and functionality. The precise detailing and expert craftsmanship required for this complex assembly underscore the strength and adaptability of Swisspearl HDFC panels.
Award-winning and visually striking, the Auditorium has become a signature element of Merck’s evolving campus - embodying the company’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and architectural excellence.
