Blending Past with Present - Swisspearl Panels Elevate TCU's Iconic Legacy Stadium

Cladding Corp Swisspearl Project: Amon G. Carter Stadium at TCU

Originally designed in 1928 by Andrew Poyar, with east and west stands added in 1930 by noted Fort Worth architect Wyatt C. Hedrick, Amon G. Carter Stadium at Texas Christian University (TCU) is a beloved collegiate landmark. Over the decades, this Fort Worth icon has seen multiple phases of renovation, each one designed to honor its historic legacy while preparing it for the future. The most recent redevelopment, led by HKS Architects with structural engineering by Thornton Tomasetti, brought a new level of sophistication, performance, and modern flair to the stadium - thanks in part to the strategic use of Swisspearl high-density fiber cement (HDFC) panels.

HKS’s design for the East Side Addition was guided by the intent to preserve the stadium’s original spirit while incorporating state-of-the-art materials and construction methods. The architectural team’s decision to integrate Swisspearl fiber cement panels into the rainscreen facade was pivotal. Not only did it visually complement the existing design with a sleek, contemporary aesthetic, but it also added a high-performance element that enhances the stadium's long-term durability and sustainability.

Swisspearl HDFC panels are known for their durability, low maintenance, and superior weather resistance - an ideal match for the dynamic climate of Fort Worth. Their non-combustible composition and resistance to moisture, UV rays, and impact make them especially suited for large-scale public projects like stadiums, where longevity and safety are top priorities.

Key benefits of the Swisspearl panels used at Amon G. Carter Stadium include:

  • Rainscreen Compatibility: Installed as part of a ventilated rainscreen system, the panels help manage moisture and thermal movement, reducing the risk of mold, mildew, and structural wear over time.

  • Fade-Resistant Finish: The light grey tone selected for the project maintains its vibrancy over years, even in high-exposure environments.

  • Sustainability: Swisspearl panels are made using natural raw materials and a sustainable manufacturing process, supporting TCU’s long-term environmental goals.

  • Versatility in Design: Available in a range of colors and finishes, Swisspearl panels allow architects to create striking façades while maintaining flexibility in application.

The transformation of Amon G. Carter Stadium stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful renovation - honoring the past while embracing the future. Through the use of Swisspearl’s fiber cement panels, the stadium now boasts a refined modern appearance, improved building envelope performance, and a facade that’s built to endure for generations.
